10-03-2008 PRESS RELEASE: Somali Diaspora Congress 07/03/08
Somali Diaspora Congress condemns the senseless USA missile attack against innocent Somali civilians in the Somali Southern town of Dhobley. This barbaric action contradicts all norms of humanity and that of international laws.
According to CNN report, 6 people including 3 women and 3 children have been killed in Dhobley. Another 20 civilians were fatally wounded. It has been also confirmed that 15 cows, 7 camels and dozen of donkeys had died in that attack.
The American administration cannot justify its military action against innocent nomads and farmers. It is absurd to say that they were targeting ONE suspected terrorist in a remote village in Somalia by firing a tomahawk cruise missile in a civilian populated area.
The Bush administration has abysmally failed to understand the real cause of the Somali conflict. The U.S. engagement of collective punishment of innocent Somali herdsmen, nomads and farmers in the pursuit of one terrorist suspect is pure evil and callous.
Regrettably, America being the only super-power in the world and the richest nation on earth is committing unspeakable crimes against the helpless, the poorest and weakest nation on earth today, Somalia . It is the Bush administration which has contributed to the chaotic situation in Somalia when they endorsed the Ethiopian dictatorial regime in Addis Ababa to invade Somalia unlawfully. It is not secret that the American Administration took part in the atrocities and genocides in Mogadishu committed by the Ethiopian invaders for providing aerial cover and intelligence. This makes the current U.S. administration complicit in the crimes that are taking place in Somalia today.
Somali Diaspora Congress urges the Community of nations to condemn this barbaric attack against the helpless Somali people. We also ask that the American Administration apologises and generously compensates for the loss of life and limb they have caused. Somali Diaspora Congress confirms that the Ethiopian presence in Somalia is the main cause of the conflict in Somalia and instability in the Horn of Africa; therefore we demand the unconditional withdrawal of the Ethiopian troops from Somalia . Somali Diaspora Congress calls upon all Somali stakeholders to solve the Somali crisis through negotiations and peaceful dialogue.
